VANDALIA On Aug. 30, aggravated assault was reported in the 4000 block of Little York Road. On Aug. 28, a theft was reported in the 100 block of Elva Court.

Residents May See Trash Bill ; City Proposes Charging for Trash and Brush Collection or Turning It Over to Private Company.

TROY -- It takes $1.2 million to collect residents' garbage, trash, recycling and brush -- 10 percent of the city's $12 million annual income tax collections. The city staff would like residents to begin paying more for the service.

Rearview Musicians Look Ahead

Riverside residents and Stebbins High School graduates Bronson Hetzer and Christopher Ashley are admittedly different. At 6-foot-4, with the stocky physique of a football player, Ashley towers over the 5-foot-6 Hetzer. Both played football at Stebbins, but Ashley, now 23, and Hetzer, now 19, were three grades apart and didn't realize how much they had in common until they met while trying out for Stebbins' annual talent show five years ago.

Architect Working On Fire Station's Design

VANDALIA -- After two and a half years of research, evaluation and planning, the city of Vandalia is moving forward to rebuild Fire Station 1. The location of the new station is being finalized, but preliminary design is under way. Michael Schuster Associates of Cincinnati is providing architectural services.

School Upgrades Considered

HUBER HEIGHTS -- The majority of Huber Heights City Schools buildings lack air conditioning, can't keep pace with today's educational demands and are becoming increasingly costly to maintain. However, the district -- and its students -- may get a reprieve with new or renovated facilities. The district will be eligible to obtain funding through the Ohio School Facilities Commission in 2008.

Vandalia Leaf Collection Starts Oct. 8

VANDALIA -- Fall's multihued display is just around the corner, followed closely by the perennial question of what to do with all those leaves once they drop. The city of Vandalia is standing by to pick up those leaves, starting Oct. 8. The city will make three passes through 10 city zones through Nov. 30.

Iron Lung Finds Historic Home

An iron lung that once made its way from New Jersey to New Carlisle is now going to what probably will be its final historic home at the Little White House State Historic Site in Warm Springs, Ga. The Little White House is part of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, once owned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who suffered from poliomyelitis, or polio, and visited Warm Springs during his years as president.

Stebbins Grad Sets College Record with 77 Round ; Golfer Betsy Beaver Was Named Conference Player and Freshman of the Year for Her Achievements at Trevecca Nazarene.

She may be undecided on her major, but Betsy Beaver is already a major success on the collegiate fairways. A sophomore at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., Beaver set the school record with a round of 77 during the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) Fall Classic on Sept. 17.

New Public Records Policies ; Amendment to State Law Allows Some Confidential Information to Be Redacted or Edited Out.

TROTWOOD -- Trotwood residents will see changes when they request public records beginning Saturday as a result of a vote Sept. 17. Trotwood Council members voted unanimously to adopt the recent state-amended public records law.

Former T-Bolt, Wilmington Coach Celebrates 200 Wins

WILMINGTON -- Winning his 200th women's college soccer game was special for Steve Spirk for several reasons. The big one was that they all came at the same school -- Wilmington College. Another is that most of his success came with rosters filled with players from the Dayton/Cincinnati area.

Gem City Jumpers Hopping for the Health of It ; the 15-Girl Team Will Perform at the Health and Fitness Carnival at Fifth Third Field On Saturday.

DAYTON -- The Dayton Gem City Jumpers, Dayton's own jump rope team, will be performing at Fifth Third Field on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Anthem Health and Fitness Carnival. The Dayton Gem City Jumpers was founded a year ago April by Dayton resident Winston Clay.

Lewisburg Artist Brings Touch of West to Exhibit

LEWISBURG -- Sue Bordenkircher has crossed the line -- the state line. The Lewisburg woman is the only Ohio exhibitor among well-known Richmond, Ind., artists exhibiting selected artwork next month at the Preble County Eaton Fine Arts Center Show.

Couple Honored by Alumni

A Versailles couple are being honored for what they've done for their college and their community. Next week, Ron and Karen Mescher will receive the Distinguished Service to the Alumni Association Award during Urbana University's homecoming celebration. The award recognizes exceptional commitment to the alumni association, said Alisa Wilson, Urbana's alumni relations coordinator.

DAYTON -- They reported to the coach again -- after 25 years. Members of Chaminade-Julienne's 1982 state AA (now Division II) men's soccer championship team were all present and accounted for -- all 18 members -- at the team's 25th reunion, staged Saturday at the Dayton Marriott.

Skateboarders Offer Solution for Park

TIPP CITY -- Skateboarders told City Council and its park board that the existing skate park is out of date and too far out of the way. They didn't just complain, though. They offered to help design a new facility, and raise money toward its construction.
