Pump Prices Push Past $3 for First Time in Year

DAYTON -- Gasoline prices surged Wednesday, shooting past $3 a gallon for regular at many locations in the Dayton area for the first time in nearly a year. The last time local gas prices rose above $3 was in late August and early September, shortly after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast and damaged offshore oil rigs and fuel distribution systems.

Ohio Surplus May Speed Up Income Tax Cuts ; Revenue Was More Than $219 Million Above Estimates While Spending Was Down Almost $586 Million .

COLUMBUS -- The state ended its fiscal year with a budget surplus and that will help speed up benefits from planned cuts in the state's personal income tax. Figures released Wednesday showed state revenue was more than $219 million above estimates, while spending -- which is still being finalized for the year -- was nearly $586 million below estimates.
