Rain, Speed Blamed in Double Fatality

BEAVERCREEK -- Rain and high speeds caused a two-car crash that killed two area motorists at the U.S. 35 and Interstate 675 ramp Thursday afternoon, police said. Neither victim's identity has been released. The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. when a woman driving a Pontiac Grand Am eastbound on U.S. 35 attempted to exit onto I-675. DAYTON -- The Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will be among civil rights notables taking part in the 48th Southern Christian Leadership Conference National Convention from Saturday through Wednesday, at the Dayton Convention Center and at local churches. Organizers expect thousands of attendees, said Anthony Whitmore, local national convention chairman.

Gop Chief Apologizes to Strickland for E-Mail

COLUMBUS -- Ohio Republican Chairman Robert Bennett on Thursday apologized to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland for an e-mail sent from state party headquarters raising questions about Strickland's private life. In a letter to Strickland, Bennett also said he had decided to "terminate the employment" of the staffer who sent the e-mail. The staffer, Gary Lankford, identified himself in the e-mail as "Social Conservative Coordinator Ohio Republican Party."
