Come let us reason together. A group of political groups has issued that call on a subject that we in newspapers often call "redistricting," for want of a word that isn't such a drag. Re "What war can do to people," June 19: This letter writer apparently believes the stress of war makes it acceptable for soldiers to slaughter innocent people. Millions of people face situations that are every bit as stressful as war, but they do not shoot other people. If the city of Dayton is serious about stopping scavengers from ripping off abandoned buildings, it should step up its program to demolish vacant buildings.

Immigration Debate Taking Political Detour to the Right

Some people doubted that Congress could or would do anything about illegal immigration this year. The disagreement about what to do is deep between Republicans, never mind the divisions between them and Democrats. This week the House of Representatives decided not to negotiate with the Senate on pending proposals, but instead to go off on a tear. Various House committees will hold hearings around the country this summer, with the goal of spotlighting what's wrong with the Senate's proposal.

Homelessness is a systemic issue I am glad to see that those who are homeless have been receiving more consideration in the Dayton Daily News and the community of late.
