Springboro plants trees for Arbor Day SPRINGBORO -- The Springboro Tree Authority and the Home Owners Association at Laurel Glen subdivision celebrated Arbor Day on April 22, traditionally the last Friday in April, with a tree-planting event at the entry to Laurel Glen.
Growing up, Jon Payne knew if he chose a career in education he would be associated with athletics. It seemed his destiny after spending much of his youth around his father -- Skeeter Payne, a well-respected athletic director associated with the Middletown school system who passed away Tuesday morning.
Blown Glass Part of Arts Alive Tour
WAYNESVILLE -- Darren Goodman has always taken a shine to blown glass. "I just always had a fascination with the materials, the mysteriousness of it," said Goodman, one of 18 Waynesville-area artisans sharing their professional passions at the Arts Alive Tour in Waynesville.
LEBANON -- Cartoons aren't just for Saturday mornings anymore -- they're also for after-school educational fun at Berry Intermediate School. Kids in fifth and sixth grades are meeting after school to learn about the art of "cartooning." The program is called Young Rembrandts and is a new one in the Lebanon area.
LEBANON -- Two police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance were among the vehicles in the crowded parking lot of Bowman Elementary on a recent Friday -- but the news was all good. The emergency vehicles were there for Vehicle Day, where people used their cars and trucks to inform the students about different career options.

LEBANON -- Brian Burger, a Lebanon resident and member of the 2005 Paralympics Rugby team, spoke to first-graders April 19 at Bowman Elementary School about life in a wheelchair. Middletown Hospital Mindful of Earth's Health During Construction
MIDDLETOWN -- If you're in charge of a nearly $200 million construction project -- like, say, the new Middletown Regional Hospital -- how do you keep the debris to a minimum? First, chop up cleared vegetation, trees and brush to use as landscaping mulch from what will be your new hospital's 190-acre campus. That activity alone has kept "truckloads" of debris out of local landfills and put material back into the campus, the hospital said.

SPRINGBORO -- The odds are way long, but Andrew Koslow and Philip Titlebaum could be getting their shot at Hollywood acclaim while still students at Springboro High School. Koslow and Titlebaum have been cast in Devil's Grove, a horror movie filming this summer in Miamisburg, "maybe some in Springboro and Franklin," Koslow said.
Warren County residents will soon be able to do everything from purchasing a dog license to paying their property taxes on the county's Web site. The county is moving ahead with plans to contract with Official Payments Corp. to provide online bill paying, which will let residents use a credit or debit card or direct debit to pay tax and other bills online.
Miamisburg Hardware Store Closing in Summer
Richmond Hardware on Main Street will close this summer, leaving the city without a hardware store downtown. Rick Parker, owner of the family-owned chain of hardware stores, said he plans to close the Miamisburg store by July. Miamisburg has had a hardware store downtown since the 1930s, except for a couple of years after Star City Hardware closed in the mid-1990s.
MAINEVILLE -- Maineville residents recently saw works of art inspired by Georgia O'Keefe, Henry Moore and Georges Seurat. Students in first through fourth grade held an art show at Maineville Elementary School and showcased some of their best work from art classes taught by Scott Hammann and Christina White.
Waynesville Police Explorers excel The Waynesville Law Enforcement Explorers Post 26 was very successful at the Cincinnati Dan Beard Council 32nd Annual Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Law Enforcement Explorer Competition on April 22-23 at Union Central Life Insurance Company in Cincinnati. Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for those 14- 20 years of age who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Training also stresses teamwork and self-confidence.
