Bump at the Pump Startles Area Drivers

DAYTON -- The price of regular unleaded gasoline jumped 25 to 30 cents at many Dayton-area service stations on Monday, shocking many motorists who spent less than $2 a gallon for gas two weeks ago. "It's greed," said Karin Lemon of Xenia. "I was shocked when I saw how much the price jumped. These oil companies are reporting record profits. Why are they gouging us?"

Teen Guilty in 4-Death Crash

HUBER HEIGHTS -- For the family of a teen killed in a highspeed single-car crash last fall that also left three others dead, the fact that the teen driver walked away remains most disturbing. "It made me mad, because we didn't understand why he didn't call for help," Ashley Caldwell, 21, a cousin of Dustin Van Hoose, said Monday of Jeremy Sallee of Dayton.

Boy, 14, Cleared in Slaying ; Brother, 16, Remains in Custody in Death of Boy On Bike

DAYTON -- Deondre J. Austin, 14, was released from the Family Court Center and cleared of charges Monday in the Feb. 19 fatal shooting of Richard "Benny" Richardson III, 14. Deondre's brother, Anthony, 16, remains in the custody of Montgomery County Juvenile Court, charged with delinquency by reason of murder.
