Miami Valley's Air Gets Cleaner ; Ozone Readings Lowest Since Testing Began in 1996, a 24 Percent Drop.

DAYTON -- If you think the air is getting cleaner in the Miami Valley, you're right. The Regional Air Pollution Control Agency said the area has achieved its lowest readings for smog-indicating ozone since testing began in 1996 -- a 24 percent drop in a decade.

Tax Cut Leaves More Green in Your Paycheck

Ohio workers will see more takehome pay this week. A cut in the statewide payroll income tax took effect Sunday. Withholding taxes were cut by 8.4 percent. That means workers are paying 12.6 percent less in state tax than last year, said Mike McKinney of the Ohio Department of Taxation.

Miami University to Soon Implement Wider Smoking Ban

OXFORD -- Smoking will be banned on much of the Miami University campus within two months. The university senate voted 48-4 to toughen the current policy, which bans butts in university buildings and vehicles and within 25 feet of residence halls. The new policy, a response to complaints, will bar smoking within 25 feet of all university facilities -- buildings, bridges, parking garages and indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and theaters.
