Unsafe Driving Practices Need to Stop

AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, WE'VE ALL SEEN the roadside sign reminding us to "Pass with Care." The sign is meant to remind us to be sure that the road ahead is clear and that there is sufficient room to pass safely. The book instructs to pass quickly and safely and to return to the travel (right) lane. In driving on interstate highways, I have come to identify drivers with a different definition of "pass with care." This is the driver who will be traveling in a group of cars, at a safe speed and ...

Vote Yes for Parks Levy

I recently read in the Dayton Daily News that Clark County was going to put its parks levy on the ballot (again) in August. The levy almost passed this past May. Does anyone remember the Montgomery County parks before our first levy? Our parks were unkempt, unpatrolled and unsafe. LAST MONTH THE ARMY SUSPENDED RECRUITing for a day so the brass could reinforce what's allowed -- and what's not -- when trying to get young people . The action came in the face of almost 500 complaints since Oct. 1 about how recruiters were behaving. Because of the war in Iraq, meeting recruiting quotas has gotten more difficult. The Marines missed their goal for the first quarter of this year, which was the first time that's happened in 10 years, and the Army and National Guard are struggli...

Speak Up: Brief Comments

- Re the letter to the editor, "Rational voters deserve thanks," May 30: I am not surprised by the letter writer who thanks the "no" voters in Springboro. Springboro is a GOP stronghold. The GOP refuses to fix school funding, relying instead on local property taxes. - Re Anthem and Premier: Perhaps the public should examine reasons why these parties cannot agree. Some insurance brokers make unbelievable commissions in representing large insurance companies such as Anthem and United Healthcare...
