Re "Bill seeks reins on profs in classroom," Feb. 1: The legislation being proposed in Ohio to control when and how controversial topics can be raised in the college classroom is preposterous. By the sponsoring senators' own admission, the legislation is not an attempt to get controversial views out of the classroom; it's an attempt to get liberal views out of the classroom.

Greene County citizens deserve to be given the facts regarding the county's participation in the financing of The Greene, a $186 million mixed-use project to be developed in Beavercreek. The financing proposed to be provided by Greene County is not a "giveaway," "gift," "subsidy" or "abatement" of $14.8 million, as has been widely reported.

Republicans won the last election, and they have all the elected administrative positions in the state, both U.S. Senate positions, as well as a majority of the seats in the Ohio Senate and House. Don't Limit Free Speech

Re "Bill seeks reins on profs in classroom," Feb. 1: I am troubled by yet another attempt by legislators to control the free flow of ideas. Academic freedom is indispensable to the free interchange of ideas that is essential to the preservation of democracy. Clearly our forefathers, by including freedom of speech in the First Amendment, recognized that without it, a true democracy cannot exist.
