Dille Development Debated ; Sugarcreek Twp. Zoning Committee Recommends Rezoning of Farm Site
SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- The Feb. 7 Sugarcreek Twp. Zoning Commission meeting saw a bit of verbal sparring between commission chairman Charles Schwegman and the proposed developer of one of the township's hottest developing areas. The location is the 230.1-acre Dille farm site at Feedwire Road and Wilmington Pike.
Bower, Navy Seaman Michael K., son of Colleen Lim of Centerville and Kevin Bower of Rittman, Ohio, has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Boer is a 2000 graduate of Centerville High School. Johnson, Navy Seaman Apprentice Ashley D., daughter of Ann Marie and stepdaughter of Ralph L. Helfinstine of Centerville, has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Johnson is a 2004 graduate of Centerville High School.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society are asking people across North America to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count from Friday through Monday. Participants are asked to keep track of the highest number of each bird species seen either in their own back yards or at local parks or forests.
KETTERING -- The Oak Tree Corner program for grieving children and teenagers is accepting new families in the Kettering and Oakwood areas. The program provides yearround support for children ages 3 through 18 who have experienced the death of parents, siblings, friends, grandparents or other loved ones.

Sugarcreek Twp. Braces for State Budget Cuts ; Township Could Be Forced to Scale Back Services
SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- As word of looming budget cuts from the Ohio legislature make their way from Columbus to local communities throughout the state, those who serve in elected positions at the local level are preparing to deal with the fallout of those cuts. On Feb. 7, budget cuts and other related issues were discussed at the Sugarcreek Twp. trustee meeting.
Lupo, Navy Ensign David R., a 1995 graduate of Centerville High School, has reported for duty at Naval Air Station, Kingsville, Texas. Lupo is a 1999 graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo. Kasch, Air Force Airman 1st Class Anthony, son of Valerie and Richard Kasch of Bellbrook, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Kasch is a 2000 graduate of Bellbrook High School.
Scholarships Available for High School Seniors, Military Spouses
The Wright-Patterson Officers' Wives' Club is still looking for applicants for its community scholarships. All high school seniors and military or United States Air Force civilian spouses pursuing bachelor's degrees or vocational degrees can apply for the scholarships. This year, the organization has added a scholarship to be awarded to a military spouse.
EVENT ON JEWISH, WOMEN'S ISSUES CENTERVILLE -- On March 6, the Miami Valley's Jewish community organizations will present A Journey of Judaism: Celebrating the Spirit and Wisdom of the Jewish Woman. The event, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boonshoft Center for Jewish Culture and Education, 525 Versailles Drive, will explore Jewish issues and rituals from women's perspectives.

Washington Twp. Tackles Full Agenda ; New Fire Captain, Cemetery Rates Among Items
WASHINGTON TWP., Montgomery County -- A new fire captain, higher cemetery rates, a new township zoning commission member, and plans to buy an additional 1,000 tons of de-icing salt, if needed this winter, were among the Washington Twp. trustee's full agenda Feb. 7. Lt. Tony Carusone, a 10-year veteran with the Washington Twp. Fire Department, was promoted to serve as one of the department's four full-time captains. His promotion was retroactive to Feb. 2.
Sugarcreek Twp. To Place Levy On Ballot ; Board Oks 6.2-Mill Measure for May 3 Election
SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- By a unanimous vote, the Sugarcreek Board of Education has approved a resolution placing a 6.2-mill replacement levy issue on the May 3 ballot. This vote at the Feb. 10 meeting was the final part of a twostep process the board must take to place the issue before voters.
CENTERVILLE -- Spring showers won't be responsible for everything popping up on Centerville-Washington Twp. Park District property in the next few months. The park district is planning to construct a new nature center in Grant Park and a water playground at Activity Center Park.
BELLBROOK -- The Bellbrook High School drama department will present two plays in the coming weeks. More than 40 students making up the cast and crew are in rehearsals for Quilters and A Few Good Men.

Centerville Neighborhood Chat Today
At 7 p.m. today, Centerville residents have an opportunity to ask questions about their neighborhood during the third in a series of neighborhood improvement meetings sponsored by the City Council. The meeting will be at the South Dayton Presbyterian Church, 1180 E. Alex-Bell Road, across from the Miami Valley Communications Council.
